Julián Carrillo, human rights defender from Coloradas de la Virgen, Chihuahua, Mexico, killed on 24 October 2018.
Julián Carillo was a leader of the Rarámuri indigenous people in Chihuahua and lived in the community of Coloradas de la Virgen. His community has lost its land titles and live forgotten by all in the inaccessible and isolated mountain range Tarahumara. They defend their ancestral territory and the environment against logging, mining and illegal crops. Julián had previously faced attacks for defending the forest. His house was burnt down, armed men threatened him. His brother in law, his son, two nephews and his son in law were all killed. Julián was killed by hitmen on 24 October 2018.
